Lost & found…in Cairo Print

Lost & found…in Cairo | babelmed Drawing from their network of budding artist, the editors of the Lost & Found programme compose evenings of audiovisual presentations at witch the audience puts in the extra zing.

Lost & Found was started in 1997. Their main inspiration were the 'Four Walls' events in New York, small informal gatherings where visual artists showed new work to each other. For the Amsterdam evenings, they drew on a network of budding artists of all disciplines, mixing in friends who had interesting things to show, like a stewardess with a slide collection and fashion designers with a tape of their first show in Paris: Viktor and Rolf. In its eighth year of running, Lost & Found is still sold out within ten minutes after opening. Its formula remained almost unchanged over the years: the Editorial Team spurs people in their network on to unearth the tapes, cdroms, films, videos or slides which are close to their heart but always seemed out of place or never even found a stage. This is than shown in the context of a Lost & Found evening. These have proved to be unique compositions.

Lost and Found have done specials at World Wide Video Festival and happyChaos and organised their programs in Rotterdam, Maastricht, Los Angeles and New York.
In 2005 Lost & Found Records was started. About four times a year, this record label releases 'lost sounds'. For every release a designer is asked to produce the sleeve.

The next stop in Cairo will feature audiovisual presentations of visual artists, designers, filmmakers and musicians from Cairo and Amsterdam and is compiled from selected and received contribution. If you want to contribute, mail found@lost.nl or call 012.7128973 (Julia).

The collection of Lost & Found flyers will be on view at Townhouse from 3 till 10 December (Gallery Hours: 11 AM-2 PM, 7-10 PM. Friday 7-10 PM, closed Thursday).
