Samir Kassir
«Freedom is the foundation without foundation of all values». J.P. Sartre
On June 2nd, 2005, a terrorist car bomb in Beirut killed Samir Kassir, a French-Lebanese writer and journalist. This despicable crime, committed by savages cowardly operating in the dark, took place as Lebanon struggles to get past a thorny situation marred by foreign domination and dictate. Why are journalists murdered? Above all, to silence them because they disturb

Samir Kassir was an outspoken journalist and writer who was known for always putting his finger on the problem; he was also a political science professor, historian, an intellectual who took the paradigm on activism and journalism to great length, co-founder of the Democratic Left party as well as a key figure and founder of the “Beirut Spring”. Samir Kassir embodied a generation of Arab intellectuals striving to liberate the peoples and states of the Near and Middle East from the stronghold of religion, colonialism and police states.
