Yabous 10th Anniversary

Yabous 10th Anniversary

Yabous Productions derives its name from Yabous, the first name given to the city of Jerusalem by the Jebusites. The Jebusites is a Canannite tribe who built the first city Yabous on the location of present-day Jerusalem.

Today and after more than 5000 years, the descendants of the Jebusites still live in East Jerusalem and continue to revive their city culturally and artistically by organizing activities in the field of performing arts.

As part of Yabous' 10th anniversary celebrations and under the slogan "Ten Years of Bonding," the Arab Film Festival will be organized with emphasis on its main mission: achieving continuity of art and culture through any means possible and despite all obstacles and restrictions.

From June 16-30 the second Film Festival returns to Palestine with a programme of Arab films from seven Arab countries. The Arab Film Festival comprises features, drama, fiction and documentaries organized by Yabous Productions in six Palestinian cities, in cooperation with the Khalil Sakakini Cultural Centre (Ramallah), the Popular Art Centre (El-Bireh), the International Centre of Bethlehem (Bethlehem), Al-Najah University (Nablus), Elsana - Nazareth Theatre & Cinematheque (Nazareth), the International Union of Francophone Press - Palestinian Section Cinema Club (Gaza), and supported by the European Union, Sida, and the Ford Foundation.

The Festival also aims to provide a common platform for producers from the Arab world to project the excellence of their art, thus contributing to the understanding and appreciation of various film cultures in the context of our social and cultural realities. Another aim is to bring cinema to
audiences throughout Palestine and to make it accessible to everyone.

Subjective truths from Palestine

Shusmo?"SHUSMO" in Arabic means "what's his name." This project began to take shape in the Fall of 2000. At first, the intent was quite simple: To blend various elements of jazz and Middle Eastern music, and to present them through powerful grooves. Over the years, as the sound of the band began to mature, other elements came into play including Latin rhythms, counterpoint, and spoken word. Today, every member brings their own background to add flavor to the compositions, and the result is far beyond what the original goals were.
