Artellewa Artist in Residence Program, Cairo

Call for applications

In 2010, the Artellewa Art Space in Cairo offers a 2 to 3 months residency for 4 visual artists from the Arab region, North Africa, and Turkey. The program is sponsored by Arts Collaboratory (Netherlands).

The residency will take place at one of the most populated areas in Cairo called "Ard El-Lewa" where the Art Space is located. In order to realise their pieces, artists will be invited to inspire themselves from their interaction with people in the neighbourhood such as workers and artisans.
The residency will cover the following expenses: lodging in a private studio, living space, and a monthly stipend that covers meals and local transportation. Artellewa will also cover the costs of artists working materials. An exhibition will be organised for each artist at the Artellewa Gallery at the end of the residency.

Deadline: 31 January 2010

Yatf: Funding for Independent Cultural SpacesDeadline: 15th of May 2007 Recently, the number of new independent cultural spaces has been on the rise, most of which founded and operated by young artists and cultural operators to meet demands of artists and audiences. Most of these spaces lack the basic funding resources for their running costs and professional staff that assure the sustainability of these spaces. As a respond to these needs, YATF is offering, with the support of Ford Foundation- Cairo office, six grants that can cover either the running costs of these spaces or to renovate or rehabilitee a new space.
