The Babelmed association, in partnership with the CMCA ((Centre Mediterranéen de la Communication Audiovisuelle di Marsiglia), Il Café dei Giornalisti (Turin) and the ACM- Rome (Assembly of Citizens of the Mediterranean) presents the first edition of the Mediterranean Documentary Nights.

The event will be held in Rome on July, 2 at 19.30 at the historic 1889 Romana Swimming Society (Lungotevere in Augusta, below the Ara Pacis).

During the evening four films set in Egypt, Bosnia, Spain and Turkey will be presented. The event will be a priceless opportunity to give visibility to the creative work of young directors who have participated in the latest editions of the prestigious international award PriMed, organized by CMCA in collaboration with the Rai, France Télévisions, and ASBU.

21.30-22.00: “Bulaq” by Davide MORANDINI and Fabio LUCCHINI, 26’, 2011. Final Selection, CMCA Award 2013. Short film category. Original version with Italian subtitles. The directors will be present.

For the last thirty years, its inhabitants fight against the Egyptian government that wants to knock it down to build touristic infrastructure. The January 25 revolution has given them new hope... but the situation remains uncertain.

 

 

 

Fabio Lucchini is a young researcher in social anthropology and anthropology of Islam at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales de Paris, also a freelance writer and director. He worked as a cameraman and assistant director in the film "Rototom Sunsplash" in 2009. Bulaq is his first film.

Young freelance journalist in Rome and London, David Morandini has worked with many international web magazines such as Frontline Club London and Il Sole 24 Ore. During his stay in Egypt he worked as a photo-journalist for the local newspaper Bikya Masr. A graduate of the School of Oriental and African Studies in London, he is a specialist in the Near and Middle East. Bulaq is his first film.

Giuseppe Carrieri was born in Naples in 1985. Director and teacher of cinema, he has made several documentaries: "Notturno Italiano" (2011), "Tu sali tra le stelle" (2012), "Stelle contate sulle dita" (2012) and "L’alfabeto del fiume” (2012).

Lidia Peralta Garcia was born in Granada (Spain) in 1970. After studying translation and interpretation she spent a few years traveling around the Middle East, Asia and Africa. She concluded studying journalism in Malaga in 2000 and made her PHd in documentary. Since 2001 she has worked in the audiovisual sector as an editor and presenter of "Tesis", an Andalusian television broadcast on socio-cultural reportage. As a director, she shot "Sudan, by the way" (2009), "The Caravan of the Manuscripts from Al-Andalus" and "Ancient Megastructures: the Alhambra" (2007), "Wings above Dakar" and "When the Moors ruled in Spain "(2006), "Al-Andalus in the mirror" (2005), "Tanan Djare, impressions of Burkina Faso through the Four Elements" and "Mohammed, the young guides of Timbuktu" (2004), "Berbers of the High Atlas" (2003) and "Carmen, Queen of the Fishermen" (2000).

00.30-00.50: “Mon rêve de vélo” by Serda YALIN, 15', 2009. Final Selection, CMCA Awards 2011, Short films category. Original version subtitled in English.

//TrailerTrailer11 year-old Abdullah lives with his parents and eleven brothers and sisters in Hasankeyf, a historical and touristic city east of Turkey. He wants to have a bike of his own but he knows that his parents can’t afford it. To realize his dream he decides to try to buy it himself by working as a tour guide.

 

 

 

 

Serda Yalın was born in Istanbul in 1967. Graduate from journalism and public relations in 1988, she immediately started to work for the TRT. Since 1995 she has created several television programs for the young. She won the Sedat Simavi prize from the Union of Turkish Journalists in 1995 with the series "Çakıltaşı” and her children's program "Apple Worm" was one of the finalists of the Japan Prize 2008.
