The current situations in Arab countries strongly remind us that independent and free journalism is fundamental to our societies’ democratic development. In this context, Liaisons Mediterranéennes (Tunis) and Babelmed.net, online magazine focusing on Mediterranean cultures (Rome, Paris) in collaboration with the René Seydoux Foundation (Paris) are launching “Babelmed Arab World” , a project dedicated to the changing Arab societies. A new editorial office is opening in Tunis.
( www.babelmed.net and www.arabicbabelmed.net )

9 Arab countries concerned
Independent correspondent journalists will report from nine different countries in the MENA region: Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Palestine, Syria and Tunisia.

The current issues of changing Arab societies
The alternative information produced will address important current issues in Arab societies – democratic transitions, human rights, gender equality, migrations, individual and collective freedoms, cultural and artistic diversity...

This initiative is supported by the Foundation for the Future (Amman), the René Seydoux Foundation (Paris) and Solidarités Laïque (Paris).

An encounter with Babelmed Arab World’s journalists:
A public debate on “The conquest of democracy: diversities and similarities”, an overview to better understand current issues in Algerian, Egyptian, Jordanian, Moroccan, Lebanese, Libyan, Palestinian, Syrian and Tunisian societies.

Saturday 19th November 2011 from 4 to 6pm
At the Club culturel Tahar Haddad – 20 rue du Tribunal – Tunis Medina
